Call for Co-Shapers

The Festival program, like every year, will be composed of the communities’ inputs. We would like to encourage you to co-shape the Festival by contributing a program point.

Are you interested in hosting a session or a workshop at the MitOst Festival? Please fill out this form until the 23rd of May.

Since 2003, MitOst Festival takes place annually in a new city, developing from an extended members’ assembly to a festival of civil society actors in Europe and neighbouring regions where the MitOst network manifests.

With up to 350 participants per year, each festival hosted plenty of workshops, discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, readings, city tours, and concerts. Coming together in this format sparks synergies, and enables collaboration, as well as learning and networking opportunities which emerge naturally in a four-day international forum!

Co-creation of the program remains the core of Festival. As participants bring in and attend sessions, engage with and contribute to its contents, the Festival becomes significant and establishes a space to connect members, partner organisations, and the local community.

As the festivals are co-created with our local partners, together we aim to emphasize current regional topics. These are then explored in the wider global context together with our international participants. As the aim is to provide a platform fitting the needs of the participants, the festival can take many different shapes, not least in adjusting to the Covid 19 pandemic starting in 2020, a year which we held the festival in an online format.

The aim of this is to both highlight and respond to realities faced by our network collectively, considering the needs of our members and their communities.

MitOst enables activities and programmes which foster cultural exchange, active citizenship, social cohesion and sustainable urban and rural development – beyond cultural, sectoral or linguistic borders.

As part of a growing European network, we support citizens in participating actively in their societies and in acting according to democratic principles. We offer various tailor-made qualifications, motivating and empowering the participants. We also connect and support civil society actors who strengthen cohesion and agency in Europe and beyond and encourage cross-sectoral cooperation in order to promote social innovation and sustainable urban and rural development.

We offer financial and professional support to our members and the alumni of international foundation programmes, helping them to bring their project ideas to life – such as exhibitions, campaigns in public spaces, performances, workshops, meetings and trainings. Members actively shape MitOst’s strategic development.

The MitOst Festival is a place of cultural exchange, a chance to connect with the MitOst network and learn with and from each other. The Festival is open to anyone who wants to get involved or already plays an active role in civil society.
It is the 20th edition of the MitOst Festival this year, and in the light of the current global events, it focuses on Resilient Communities in Times of Uncertainty. In the past months, we witnessed our network values manifest in solidarity and coordinated action across national and cultural borders. At the MitOst Festival 2022, we will focus on how networks and communities build and exercise resilience and what it means for civil society.

The Festival program, like every year, will be composed of the communities’ inputs. To inspire all of our co-creators, we offer three topical pillars that respond to our network’s needs right now:

  1. Art, Culture and Conflict
  2. Self- and Organisation Care
  3. Civil Society Now and in the Future

We would like to encourage you to co-shape the Festival by contributing a program point. This year marks the 25th anniversary of MitOst. We want to invite you to think about your input for the Festival as a birthday gift for your network.

Due to a severe change in our funding support, this year’s MitOst Festival cannot reimburse our valued co-shapers of the program financially. As our network is built on solidarity, we want to ask our members to consider giving something back to the MitOst network. Looking back on the 25 years of community and connected opportunities that MitOst has made possible, we hope that we can keep this spirit alive through your generosity.

We would also like to inform you that the Members Assembly will not be happening during the Festival this year but in an online format in Autumn 2022. That decision has been taken to increase the accessibility and inclusivity of the Members Assembly. However, Agora will still be included in the Festival program, and we would love to hear your voices on all matters concerning the network.
